Pass the Falcon
Based around the age-old sport of falconry, this unique challenge encompasses speed, agility, dexterity, teamwork and learning ability.
At the beginning of the event, teams are introduced to a real peregrine falcon, and the importance of carrying the falcon securely is explained. The instructor will teach the team members how to tie the “falconer’s knot”, which involves holding the falcon steady on one hand while the knot is tied with the other hand, i.e. using just one hand.
Once the team’s instruction is completed, everyone is taken to a course where they will have to run an obstacle relay race with a falcon (a model falcon is used for this).
Each member of the team will have to run the length of the course, stopping at a post to do a spin around it, to collect the falcon from a perch, fasten it to his/her glove, and then carry it back to the beginning of the course, tie it securely to another perch, and then run back to tag the next member of the team, until every team member has run the course.
We set a maximum time for each race, and give bonus points for beating that time, as well as adding or subtracting points for the manner in which the falcon is carried.
At the end of the event, we will fly a real falcon for the guests.
Lots of fun and excitement for all participants.
Find the Monsters!
An extremely unusual team building exercise, utilising state-of-the-art radio tracking equipment.
Monsters from another Galaxy have invaded Earth, and it is your team’s job to find them before it’s too late.
Before the event begins, each team is given a quick but thorough course in the use of radio telemetry (designed to detect the aliens), and is then supplied with a receiver, directional aerial, a map of the area, and the exact number of “monsters” within that area.
Working together, the team must find as many monsters as possible. Each monster has a different value, and the points for each find are totalled; the team that amasses the most points wins the event.
A time limit is set for this event, and penalties incurred for over-running, and so there is no time to hang around or argue if the team is to be successful.
Participants need to remember that the monsters are extremely clever, and are capable of hiding in holes in the ground, up trees, under bushes and even in or on buildings, and so a good deal of effort will be needed by the teams to win this challenge.
Loads of fun, and a totally different event.
Corporate Ferret Racing
Ferret racing provides a unique way to entertain and motivate staff, and our Flat Caps & Ferrets®© service is the market leader.
The activity begins with a short introduction into the art of ferret racing, with our Ferret Meister passing on top tips to the participating teams and individuals. Once everyone is briefed, teams are allowed a few minutes to work out team tactics, and then the racing tubes are loaded with live ferrets.
As we bring a “business” (the collective noun for our mustelids) of 15-20 ferrets on every event, none of the ferrets are overworked, nor can anyone work out the animals’ individual foibles, all adding to the fun.
Teams can get extremely competitive on this activity, but they ignore the Ferret Meister’s advice at their peril.
Anything can – and usually does! – happen in ferret racing!
To-date, the fastest time we have had for a team to complete this course is a staggering 13 seconds. However, we have also needed to apply the 10 minute cut-off rule!
Flat Caps & Ferrets®© is suitable for corporate team building and fun days.
We supply everything for this activity –
• A 15-strong “business” of ferrets;
• Racing pipes;
• Starting traps;
• Presenter/Trainer/Race Commentator;
• Safety barriers;
• A sense of humour!
We can also run our FERRET ROULETTE for team building. This needs very little space, can be run indoors or outside and supplies loads of fun!
Creepy Crawly Challenge©®
A two-part event that can be run as a public entertainment, a competition or as part of a team-building day.
The event is based on people’s fears (usually totally unfounded) of creepy crawlies, such as spiders, snakes, rats, insects and worms etc.
The event consists of two parts, the first of which involves each team/member handling a variety of animals, and the second part requires them to retrieve tokens from a cage containing creepy crawlies. Each token is of a different value, and the idea is for the team/member to amass as many points as possible.
The team/member with the highest total number of points wins.
This event is housed in a marquee or building, within which are several “creepy crawlies”,
e.g. spiders, snakes, rats, mice, lizards, cockroaches etc.
Part 1 of the challenge involves participants handling animals; they score a different number of points for each species (the number of points is clearly displayed on the front of each cage) and each participant can choose to handle a maximum number of species (dependent on size of team), and gain points.
In part 2 of this challenge, within a set time limit, members have to retrieve tokens from a cage containing creepy crawlies. No-one can see just what these creepy crawlies are, and each token is the same size and shape, but with a different value. Every cage contains the same number of tokens, all of which have the same total value.
The points are totalled and added to the score from part 1, to get the overall winner.
All animals are safe to handle, and come to no harm during this challenge.
Throughout the event, participants are given interesting and fun facts about each animal.
Loads of fun, and a totally different event.
